Here come the oils

Chosen for their blend-ability and their natural cleaning properties our Essential Oils make it possible for you to create your own bespoke “home aroma” that’s easy to change with the seasons.

Here are some ideas on how to use our oils.

Eucalyptus 

Eucalyptus is a true hero! Renown for its powerful disinfectant and antibacterial qualities it cleans disinfects kills germs and deodorises.

The crisp and refreshing scent of the Australian bush will leave your home smelling scrumptiously clean. Our oil has been steam distilled, is colourless but may have a slight green/yellow tinge.

How to use this oil

  • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble cleaning products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well - eucalyptus and lemon, eucalyptus and orange, eucalyptus and lavender  , Eucalyptus and tea tree 
  • Add 5 drops to a cup of Gyre and Gymble Gentle Scouring Powder and sprinkle on carpets, mattresses and fabric sofas using a herb shaker. Leave for an hour for its odour eating magic to work, then vacuum off.  Blend with tea tree for an added antibacterial burst of freshness.  
  • Add 5 drops to a bucket of hot water and mop your floor. Spray stubborn marks with Multi Surface Spray.  
  • After you clean your kitchen sink leave two drops on the clean surface – just because it smells wonderful! 
  • Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment and make your own refreshing and cleansing room spray. Simple fill the bottle with water and add 10 drops of eucalyptus oil. In winter clean your radiators with this mix.  As the radiator warms up the eucalyptus aroma gently fill your home. You can also spray this in children's hats to help prevent nits. 
  • If you’re feeling a little congested add a couple of drops onto a clean face cloth and place under your pillow.

Tea tree

Another Aussie hero! Tea tree is a truly versatile oil with a refreshing clean aroma. It cleans, disinfects, kills germs, and deodorises. Its natural antibacterial qualities make it a great choice for bathrooms.

Our oil has been steam distilled from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, is colourless but may be pale yellow in colour with a fresh medicinal clean aroma. 

How to use this oil

  • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble cleaning products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well - tea tree and lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus, tea tree and lemon
  • Repurpose one of our 500g jars and make an odour eating cupboard freshener. Add 5 to 10 drops of oil to 1 cup of our Gentle Scouring Powder. Stir in the oil and cover with a cloth that can be secured into place with string. Place at the back of a cupboard to keep it fresh and clean.
  • Want to deter mice? Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Add a cup of water and 10 to 15 drops of tea tree. Spray this around an area to deter mice. The powerful aroma also keeps musty smells at bay.  You can also spray this in children's hats to help prevent nits. 

    Lemon 

    Lemon’s super refreshing aroma and its antibacterial properties make it a must-have in your cleaning kit. Your home will benefit from its bright and awakening aroma. Renowned for its disinfecting, grease-cutting and stain removal powers. 

    Our oil has been steam distilled, is colourless but may be pale yellow/green in colour with a zesty, crisp, aroma.  

    How to use lemon

    • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble cleaning products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – lemon and eucalyptus, lemon and lavender, lemon, orangeand grapefruit, lemon and geranium  
    • When you have cleaned your taps add 1 to 2 drops of lemon oil to a clean damp cloth and polish to a sparkle. Your taps will smell fantastic too!
    • What about a fabulous fresh ironing spray? Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Add 5 to 10 drops to half a bottle of water. Perfect for work shirts and school uniforms. 
    • Add a few drops to a bucket of hot water and mop floors leaving behind a fresh and zesty “home aroma”.  
    • Clean your kitchen sink and finish by adding a couple of drops near the drain to keep it smelling clean and fresh.
    • Add a couple of drops to the bottom of your empty rubbish bin (and around the handle or lid). This will help keep your bin smelling fresh and clean.

      Orange

      Have you peeled an orange and noticed that burst of orange aroma – that’s the essential oil escaping from the rind. Sweet orange is a zesty and invigorating favourite with naturally antibacterial properties.  It will lift your mood while you clean.  We could all do with a bit of that! 

      Our oil has been cold-pressed and is orange in colour.  You may notice sediment in this oil. This is a naturally occurring wax and can be mixed back into the oil by giving it a little shake. This oil is fresh tangy and sweet just like the fruit. 

      How to use orange

      • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble cleaning products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – orange and lemon, orange and grapefruit, orange and lavender, orange and tea tree , orange and cinnamon
      • Blend lemon, orange and grapefruit for a big boost of citrus. This is a superb blend for your spring clean. 
      • Fancy getting festive. Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Mix 5 drops of orange and 5 drops of cinnamon oil into 1/2 cup of water and add to the spray bottle. Collect some pine cones and place these in a basket next to the fireplace. Spray the basket and pine cones with the mixture and allow the heat from your fireplace to fill your room with this delightful Christmas pudding aroma.

        Grapefruit 

        Sweet, fresh, and fabulous. Grapefruit’s energising and refreshing aroma combined with its disinfecting and deodorising qualities make it a much-loved favourite.  Bright and uplifting it’s perfect for a spring clean too. 

        Our oil has been expeller pressed, is colourless but may be dark yellow in colour and has been selected for its likeness to the real fruit.  

        How to use grapefruit

        • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble cleaning products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – grapefruit, lemon and orange, grapefruit and tea tree, grapefruit and eucalyptus
        • Grapefruit’s antibacterial qualities make it a must have for your bathroom cleaning.
        • Add a few drops to a bucket of hot water and mop floors.
        • Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Fill with water and add 5 drops grapefruit, 5 drops lemon and 5 drops orange oil for a zesty summer room spray.
        • For a fresh fridge, add 5 drops to a clean damp cloth and wipe down all the doors and shelves after cleaning.

          Lavender 

          Lavender’s floral and sweet aroma combines with herbal notes to provide you with some aromatherapy as you clean. What’s not to like about that! It’s antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial and deodorising properties make this a go-to favourite.  Considered the most useful of all essential oils.

          Our oil has been steam distilled, is colourless but may be pale yellow in colour.  Selected for its pleasant, herbaceous, floral aroma.  

           

           How to use Lavender

          • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – lavender and lemon, lavender and eucalyptus, lavender and geranium, lavender and tea tree 
          • Add 3 to 5 drops of lavender oil to an oil burner with added water for a relaxed and restful aroma. 
          • Keep your towels smelling fresh and sweet. Add 5 to 10 drops to a clean face cloth and place between towels in your linen cupboard. Refresh every month.  
          • Sweet dreams. Place a couple of drops of lavender oil onto a clean cloth and place under your pillow.
          • Refresh lavender bags with a few drops of oil in each. Place large bags of lavender on top of radiators and they will infuse lavender around your home when warmed. 
          • Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Fill with water and add 10 drops of lavender. Use as a room spray or ironing aid. 
          • Add 4 to 5 drops to a dryer ball and put in your washing machine with your washing. Perfect for PJs and bedsheets. 

            Geranium 

            Geranium is a firm favourite any time of the year. This lovely herbaceous aroma is slightly sweet with a hint of citrus and rose. An effective deodorant, its pleasant and uplifting aroma will make your home smell divine. 

            Our oil has been steam distilled and will be pale yellow in colour.  If you crush a geranium leaf and stalk you will smell a light rosy aroma with some notes of citrus. Our oil reflects this perfectly.

             

            How to use geranium

            • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – geranium and lavender, geranium and lemon, geranium and orange.
            • Repurpose one of our 500ml amber glass bottles with spray attachment. Fill with water and add 10 drops of geranium or a blend. Use as a floral dusting spray. Alternatively add 4 drops to a damp clean cloth and dust away, it will feel like you are in the garden mid-summer. 
            • Add 1 to 2 drops in the kitchen sink when washing up. The warm water will infuse the geranium oil into the steam of the water.
            • Fill your kitchen sink with warm to hot water and add 5 to 10 drops of geranium oil. Clean kitchen surfaces with a clean cloth and the oil-infused water.

              Scotch pine 

              Scotch pine has cleaning superpowers! It kills mould and mildew, is a mild antiseptic and has anti-fungal and deodorising properties. Its fresh woody aroma is energising and uplifting. 

              Our oil has been steam distilled from the needles and wood and will be slightly yellow in colour.  

              How to use scotch pine

              • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. These blends work particularly well – scotch pine and lavender,  scotch pine and eucalyptus, scotch pine and lemon, scotch pine, cinnamonand orange.
              • When windows are opened for the first time after winter you may find a little backline along the window sill. This black mould can be removed easily with our Scented Vinegar. To ensure mould spores don’t come back put 2 to 3 drops of scotch pine onto a damp cloth and wipe where the mould used to be. Scotch pine is a great mould killer. Do the same anywhere mould is growing. 
              • Fill a beautiful basket with pine cones and dried flowers. Add 4 drops of scotch pine and 4 drops of lavender oil. At Christmas replace lavender with sweet orange and cinnamon for a seasonal favourite.
              • To clean timber floors make a pot of black tea, leave to brew then add to a bucket of hot water. Add 2 to 3 drops of scotch pine and 2 to 3 drops of eucalyptus oil and mop your floor as normal. The tea has tannins which are great for timber floors and the scotch pine and eucalyptus smell fantastic. 

                Cinnamon 

                Cinnamon Bark is a seasonal favourite making your home smell like Christmas pudding. A beautifully sweet and spicy aroma that can be used for deodorising and purifying air and for its powerful antibacterial properties.  

                Our oil has been steam distilled, is pale yellow in colour and has a warm spicy aroma. Note: Cinnamon oil is a hot oil. Do not put directly onto your skin. Always dilute this oil. If you do accidentally put this oil onto your skin wash immediately with cool water and seek medical attention if you have any reaction. 

                How to use cinnamon

                • Add 5 drops to any of your Gyre and Gymble products or blend with other oils to create your own bespoke fragrance. We recommend testing this first as it is a particularly strong aroma. If you are preparing your home for Christmas you can blend cinnamon with orange oil for a festive fragrance. These blends also work well Cinnamon and geranium , Cinnamon andlemon , Cinnamon and tea tree 
                • Add 2 drops of cinnamon and 4 drops of orange oil to an oil burner with some water for a warming home aroma. 
                • Add a couple of drops of cinnamon, scotch pine and orange to a basket of pine cones for a seasonal treat. 
                • For a comforting aroma, if you have a log fire place a jug or vase next to the fireplace. Add 5 drops of cinnamon oil to the surface of the water. As the water warms by the fire the cinnamon aroma will fill your room.
