The skateboard is a familiar cultural object: youth, street culture, movement, risk, display. These are new decks that will never be ridden — gilded instead, and hung on a wall. The series asks a serious question through a faintly absurd act — what has to happen before an object is allowed to become art? Every work here has an explanation behind it, and a critique of that explanation, and both are part of the piece.
